Major Canadian Market Research Firms Merge, Emphasizing AI Integration

Vancouver, British Columbia – In a significant move set to reshape Canada’s market research landscape, Rival Group, the parent company of AI-powered conversational market research software firm Rival Technologies and consulting service Reach3 Insights, has announced a merger with Vancouver-based Angus Reid Group (ARG). The deal, expected to close later this month, will create what Rival Group claims will be the largest Canadian-owned independent market research company.

The newly merged entity projects annual revenues exceeding $60 million CAD, with operations spanning across Canada and the United States, and a combined team of over 180 employees. This strategic alliance represents a “family reunion” of sorts, as Rival Group is co-led by co-CEOs Andrew and Jennifer Reid, children of ARG’s namesake pollster, Angus Reid. The trio previously collaborated in building and leading the Canadian customer research tech firm Alida (formerly Vision Critical).

Andrew Reid, who is also the founder and CEO of Rival Technologies, highlighted the synergies of the merger in an interview with BetaKit. He stated that the combination brings together Rival Technologies’ proprietary AI-driven technology, ARG’s high-quality research panels, and Reach3’s expert consulting services under one roof. The aim is to integrate AI further into ARG’s panels and explore various collaborative opportunities across the three businesses.

Angus Reid himself will take on a strategic leadership role on Rival Group’s board, playing an active part in the company’s future trajectory. This merger signals a broader trend within the market research industry towards leveraging advanced technology, particularly AI, to enhance data collection, analysis, and insights. The combined strengths are expected to allow the company to offer a new kind of research service that integrates tools, data, and expertise to keep clients ahead of market trends.

This development also comes alongside other recent Canadian tech news, including a Waterloo, Ontario startup, Sweat Free Telecom, launching an eSIM card that acts as a backup in mobile outages, offering connectivity to major networks across Canada and over 200 other networks globally. This innovation aims to address vulnerabilities in Canada’s telecom infrastructure, as highlighted by past outages.
