Federal Privacy Commissioner Launches Investigation into TikTok’s Data Collection Practices
Gatineau, Quebec – The Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (OPC) has announced the launch of a formal investigation into the data collection practices of the popular social media platform TikTok. The investigation will scrutinize how the platform gathers, uses, and discloses the personal information of Canadian users, with a particular focus on children and youth.
Privacy Commissioner Philippe Dufresne stated that the investigation was initiated following numerous complaints and growing concerns raised by privacy advocates and parliamentarians regarding TikTok’s handling of user data.
